Officers on routine patrol Friday saw two men fleeing the scene of a crime. The police arrested the two suspects, who were later identified as the men who robbed a woman in Sugar Estate.
According to the V.I. Police Department, the incident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. when police noticed two men running in the area of Lockhart Gardens. At the same time, 911 dispatch advised officers of an armed robbery that had just occurred near the same location.
Officers pursued the suspects, apprehending one immediately and the second after a brief chase. The suspects were later identified by the 21-year-old victim as the persons who robbed her of her cell phone, gold earrings and gold chain.
Vershawn Monsanto, 19, and Walter Hill III, 26, were charged with first and second-degree robbery, unauthorized possession of a firearm, aggravated assault and battery, grand larceny, reckless endangerment and disobeying a lawful order.
They were each held on a $200,000 bail, which they were unable to post. The suspects were remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending their advice of rights hearing.
