Martin Luther King Jr. Fort-To-Fort Memorial Run Results Given

(left to right) Marlon Williams and Ana Gutierrez Olympic Marathon Runners; Roger Hatfield and Theresa Harper Triathletes approach the 10 mile mark of The 29th Annual Martin Luther King Fort-To-Fort Memorial RunThe 29th running of the Martin Luther King Jr. Fort-To-Fort Memorial Run took place on St. Croix on the morning of Sunday, Jan. 19. This traditional event is one of many in the territory and across the U.S.A. that celebrates the memory of the slain civil rights advocate. Organized by the Virgin Islands Pace Runners, it is a non-competitive endurance run, and its goal is to bring runners together to pay tribute.
Over two dozen runners showed up for the 6 a.m. start of the run from downtown Christiansted to Frederiksted, using the two forts as start and finish landmarks. While most of the participants take advantage of the run to boost their training for the many endurance events in the territory, they are aware of the message associated with this noncompetitive run. In fact, one cannot help but to associate the history of slavery and freedom on St. Croix and the civil rights struggle significant during Dr. King’s time.
