A man home walking early Tuesday heard someone cry for help, but when he went to offer assistance, was stabbed in the abdomen, according to the V.I. Police Department.
The case is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives.
The victim told police he was walking home on the Nazareth roadway from the Red Hook area at about 3:45 a.m. Tuesday when he heard someone call for help. When he looked behind some garbage bins he saw a man. When he asked the man if anything was wrong, the man jumped up and stabbed him in the stomach, the victim told police.
The suspect pushed the victim down to the ground and took more than $1,000 from a black bag the victim said he was carrying.
The suspect was described as a black man standing about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, wearing a black hat, long-sleeved black T-shirt, black jeans and a black bandana covering his face.
The victim’s name was not released in compliance with a department policy not to identify victims of assault.
