VIPD Weed and Seed Announces New Summer Programs

Enrollment is under way for late summer classes in the V.I. Police Department’s "Weed and Seed" summer programs, one beginning at the end of July and the other at the beginning of August.

Other VIPD summer programs began in June, serving hundreds of youths throughout the territory. Weed and Seed on St. Croix is offering three additional programs.

– BLISS is the Basic Life Independence Skills Seminar and will be offered to youth ages 14 through 18. Through fun activities and discussions, the program prepares youth to function independently and responsibly. The instructor is retired Police Lt. Eric Thomas.
– The “Handy Klass of Krafts” will teach or improve the skills of teens age 10 through 18. Some of the benefits of participating in this creatively inspired class are the enhancement of communication skills through visual efforts and improvement of focus, attention and concentration, according to the department.

Both of these programs will be held at the Mutual Homes Community center. BLISS runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays from Aug. 5 through 16. The crafts class is from 9 a.m. to noon weekdays from July 22 through Aug. 2.
