Roger Rabbit, Easter Bonnet, and VI Native Classics Highlight Easter Sunday Race Card

The Roger Rabbit, Easter Bonnet, and VI Native Classics will highlight TRAXCO’s Easter Sunday nine-race card at the Randall Doc James Race Track.

The VI Native Classic, the fifth race on the card, will feature the top native born thoroughbreds in the territory. In this one the favorite will undoubtedly be Prince Crystal (120), the native champ who is riding a four-race win streak and will be tough to beat on his favorite track. Creation Rebel (118) gave the champ all he could handle on St. Thomas, but came up a nose short. He will be looking to improve on that performance. Express to Cali (116) will be coming hard late, as will the Prince, who should be motoring even faster. Dinero (114), once the best in this division, has not been very good lately and will probably need a miracle. Emerald Star (116) always tries hard, but may be in over his head here.

The next featured race on the card, the Easter Bonnet for mares and fillies run at a distance of one mile. Leggy Blonde (120) is the native champ, but could have her hands full going up against the newly imported $8,000.00 claimer, Lavender Lane (118), who showed a win in her last race at Tampa Bay Downs going a 1-1/16 mile in 1:46:45. She will still have to come hard because the blonde one is tough on the RDJ surface. Watch Your Back, another new arrival, needed her last race, and is expected to move forward off of that one. She could be right in the mix of things if she is ready. Finish in Style (118) competed against better in her day, but has not done much to show that in some time. She will be a long shot to win here, but she has the class to surprise if in form. Sardina (120) is another new comer who has a huge shot in this race. She has won four in a row in Puerto Rico before coming to St. Croix, and her connections will be looking to keep that streak alive. WhoShottheSheriff (118) will need a hot pace up front for her to make her trademark late run from the back of the pack.

The Roger Rabbit Classic will feature the top imports on St. Croix. Slevin (120) will be the post time favorite, and rightly so, because he is the class of the race. He, however, will be looking to rebound from a shocking loss his last time out. Stable mate, El Real Madrid (119), returns to the track after a yearlong injury layoff. He is a classy animal, but may need a race or two under his belt to compete at this level again. Berberis (119) will need his best and that may not be enough. Carse (119), the old champ, returns to the track on wheels that may be somewhat shaky. Sunday will tell if he has a future in racing at the RDJ. Big D is the speed, but should be gobbled by the middle of the backstretch. Going Blue (114) is simply outclassed.
