Lutheran Social Services Honors AmeriCorps Members

Project Reach of Lutheran Social Services joins in the nationwide celebration of AmeriCorps Week, March 10 -18, spotlighting the vital work done by AmeriCorps members in communities across the United States since the national service program began 18 years ago.
Since 1994, over 706,000 men and women have joined AmeriCorps, and they have given more than 860 million hours of service to their country. “We are proud to be part of AmeriCorps and grateful for the AmeriCorps members who are getting things done. AmeriCorps members have made a tremendous impact allowing us to extend our services to children who have been victim of abuse and neglect, low income seniors and adults with disabilities,” said Junia John-Straker, CEO of Lutheran Social Services.
To mark AmeriCorps Week, a number of events are happening around the United States and here on St. Croix. The territory’s AmeriCorps Week of activities begins at the corner of the Frederiksted Post Office to bring awareness to the community of the many services that AmeriCorps members provide. Local members will participate in community service projects and attend trainings to better serve their community. These events will allow community residents to learn more about the AmeriCorps programs.
For more information on AmeriCorps and the week of events, visit Lutheran Social Services on its Website at lssvi.org or contact Dianna Arthurton, AmeriCorps coordinator, at 772-4099 ext. 31 for updates.
