Domestic Violence Unit detectives on St. Croix arrested 52-year-old Erasmo Rijo Monday morning after he allegedly threatened to kill his wife with a handgun.
According to police, Rijo’s wife reported that her husband assaulted her on Dec. 5. The wife told police that during the assault, Rijo discharged one shot from his handgun into the ground and then pointed the gun at her face and threatened to kill her. Rijo then left the area.
Police said they later interviewed the suspect and verified that he did own a registered firearm that he was licensed to carry.
Rijo was charged with third-degree assault domestic violence and was remanded to the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Center.
