The Coolers, Set it Off, and the Seaborne Stealers were Tuesday night winners in the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League action at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park.
The Coolers edged the Lumber Jacks, 10-9; Set it Off rocked the Cartel 19-12; and the Stealers just got by the National Guard Hummers, 16-15.
Coolers 10, Lumber Jacks 9
In Tuesday’s opening contest, Jose Berrios went 2 for 3 and slammed two home runs to lead the Coolers to a 10-9 squeaker over the Lumber Jacks. It was the Coolers with 10 runs on 16 hits and two errors, while the Lumber Jacks finished with nine runs on 10 hits and two errors. The winning pitcher was Dexter DeSousa, and Greg Miller got the loss. Other contributors at the plate for the winners were Dwayne Harvey, 3 for 3, and David Gonzales, 2 for 3. For the Lumber Jacks, Kai Miller was 3 for 3, and Greg Miller was 2 for 3.
Set it Off 19, Cartel 12
Set It Off pounded out 23 hits and plated 19 runs to power their way past the Cartel 19-12 in game two. The Cartel managed 12 runs on 11 hits and committed three errors for the game. Julio Carmona got the win on the hill for Set it Off, while James Smith got the loss. Top batters for Set it Off were Juan Santana, 4 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs; Jose Burgos, 3 for 3 with a home run and one RBI; and Orlando Benitez, 4 for 4. For the Cartel, Anthon Cannier was 3 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs, while Edwin Derweer and Darrin Lewis were both 3 for 4 in a losing cause.
Stealers 16, Hummers 15
Tuesday’s night cap was a match up of two teams that, no matter what the individual records are, it is going to be highly competitive game, and they did not disappoint. Tuesday night, as is usually the case, the Stealers found a way to pull out a 16-15 victory. It was the Stealers with 16 runs on 17 hits and three errors, while the Hummers, who out hit their adversary 21-17, managed only 15 runs with four costly errors. Sam Ramos got the win on the mound for the Stealers, while Jerry Vialet got the loss for the Hummers. Top batters for the Stealers were Raymond Cintron, 3 for 4 with a home run and six RBIs, and Ronald Schjang, 3 for 4. For the Hummers, Sylvester Blake was 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs and Dushane Brown was 2 for 3 with three RBIs.
