Heavy rain is forecast for the U.S. Virgin Islands over the next day or so, and a flash flood watch is in effect through Monday evening, according to the National Weather Service office in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The NWS statement noted that a fast-moving wave is expected to push through the area late Monday and Tuesday, while a trough with embedded moisture becomes better defined. “Moist flow out of this area will bring showers and thunderstorms across the eastern third of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands tonight and Monday,” the statement said.
Forecasters said to expect showers and a possible thunderstorm Sunday night. Anywhere from 2 to 6 inches of rain are expected through Monday evening, enough to cause flash flooding of small streams and guts.
