A pair of expos with entertainment and the chance to win prizes, including an Apple iPad, will help the V.I. Department of Education kick off its school improvement program this weekend.
Expos will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Tutu Park Mall on St. Thomas and the Sunny Isle Shopping Center on St Croix.
The events will give parents the chance to enlist in the Education System Improvement Programs, known as eSIP, and win prizes for doing so. A full entertainment lineup will features the marching bands of the local high schools, quadrille dancers and mocko jumbie groups.
Students and parents will have the chance to win several prizes, including iPads for the parents of high school students. The popular electronic devices have been donated by publishing giant Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
Other prizes include: bags of new reading books and instructional materials for students and teachers, Kindle e-book readers and a $500 Home Depot shopping spree in each district.
Parents can complete an eSIP promotional passport for a chance to become eligible for other prizes. Pencil pouches and lightweight sports packs will be given away to early participants.
According to the department, eSIP is meant to create a more comprehensive, collaborative approach to school planning.
The department encourages community members to take part in this weekend’s events to find out more about the campaign and how they can be involved.
