When she was 14, St. John resident Krista Kremer had a massage to help a shoulder problem caused by carrying a heavy book bag. That experience piqued her interest and after graduating from Johnson and Wales University with a degree in recreation and leisure management, she switched gears and began her career as a massage therapist.
Her practice is called Absolute Serenity.
“I love to help people and make them feel better,” Kremer, 33, said.
While she likes helping all her clients, she said she gets a sense of satisfaction out of seeing how her work helps solve problems for people with specific health issues.
“I like to fix it,” she said.
She sees lots of benefits from massage.
“I always think of it as my attitude adjustment,” she said.
The pluses are many. Kremer said massage helps get rid of stress, helps with blood circulation and helps alleviate muscle fatigue.
She also sees that people don’t take enough time for themselves.
“They need to take time and just breathe,” she said.
With 10 years experience at the massage table, she incorporates many different techniques into her massage practice. They include deep tissue, shiatsu, reflexology, Thai yoga, and hot stone plus a few others.
“I mesh them together,” she said.
Kremer studied massage at the New Mexico School of Natural Therapeutic and yoga at the Nosara Institute of Yoga in Costa Rica. Deciding to expand her horizons, she studied to be an aesthetician at the Gloria Francis Institute in New York.
“I didn’t want to get burned out quickly,” she said, adding that doing bridal makeup gives her a break from her work in massage therapy.
When she’s not seeing her Absolute Serenity clients at their villas, she works in the massage program at Caneel Bay Resort and as an aesthetician at Pampered Pause Salon in Cruz Bay. She previously worked at the Ritz Carlton-St. Thomas.
She was born on St. Thomas to Cynthia Smith and George Kremer, and as a child and when she first got out of college she worked in the family snorkel and beach tour business.
The family moved to St. John when she was a small child. Kremer then went to Guy Benjamin School in Coral Bay and what was then called Pine Peace School – now Gifft Hill School – before making the daily trek to All Saints School on St. Thomas.
Both her parents still live on St. John. She also has a sister, Michaela Kremer, 20, who lives in New York.
Kremer has been married for nearly three years to Adonis Morton. She said family activities (plus trips to such far-flung places as Europe and Thailand), some beach time and her work keep her busy.
