DOL Sending Additional Compensation Checks to Unemployed Claimants

The Department of Labor, Division of Unemployment Insurance, has mailed out Federal Additional Compensation (FAC) payment checks to unemployment claimants who received the extended Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 benefits for the time period beginning March 1, 2010 and ending Dec. 31, 2010. All checks were mailed out on, Friday, July 1, 2011, according to a press release from VIDOL.
Five hundred fifty-one checks were mailed out to claimants on St. Thomas, 434 checks on St. Croix, and 32 checks on St. John. The checks totaled $121,075 for the St. Thomas district, $92,750 for the St. Croix district and $6,050 for the St. John district. An additional 153 checks totaling $32,675 will be mailed out to claimants that are not in the territory but were eligible for unemployment insurance benefits in the territory.
Eligible unemployment claimants who received regular unemployment benefits during the time period beginning March 1, 2010 and ending Dec. 31, 2010 were previously sent their FAC payment checks by Dec. 31, 2010.
The FAC payments are for an additional $25 per eligible week during the aforementioned time period for all eligible claimants. The FAC payments are a part of the Obama Administration Stimulus Plan and are completely funded by the federal government.
