Members of the VIPD Bike Unit in Frederiksted pose with the marijuana plants they seized. The petals of an illegal crop fell to the pedals of the Virgin Islands Police Department Friday, as the police Bike Unit assigned to Frederiksted seized 20 marijuana plants along with several live and blank rounds of ammunition from a bushy area in Estate Smithfield east of the Marley Apartments.
The officers discovered the marijuana cultivation plot while pursuing another case. The marijuana was growing in separate plastic pots and averaged about 4 feet in height.
The area was guarded by three pit bulls and one chow chow, the police said in a press release. The dogs were taken by the members of the St. Croix Animal Shelter who were called to the scene by police.
Paraphernalia for growing and selling the marijuana was also seized.
Police say that anyone who wants to claim the confiscated property can call the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-712-6077 or 340-712-6037.
