Police are investigating the death of 23-year-old Curtis Thomas, who was shot Sunday afternoon near the Domino Gas Station in Estate Frydenhoj on St. Thomas.
Officers were dispatched to the scene around 1:26 p.m. Sunday and found the victim, who appeared to have been shot more than once in his side and back, according to district Police Chief Rodney Querrard Sr.
Emergency medical technicians stabilized Thomas and transported him by ambulance to Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he later died, Querrard said.
Querrard could not say whether Thomas gave an account of the incident before he died, adding that the matter is still under investigation.
Police have spoken to a "person of interest" in the case, and are following up on calls from community members, he said.
Querrard decried the shooting, saying that the community should take a stand against criminal activity.
"When will these senseless killings end?" he asked in a statement Monday. "We as a community must say enough is enough. We have to be that nosy neighbor. We have to be that village raising our children."
Anyone with information on Thomas’ death or any other homicide is urged to call the Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit at 642-8449 or 715-5534, emergency 911 or Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS.
