Updated Electricians and Plumbers Codes Take Effect

The Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs (DLCA) notifies the public of action taken at the last Electricians and Plumbers Board meeting held on Aug. 19. In addition to reviewing applications, the board adopted an updated version of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) to be used by all electricians and plumbers. The two new codes NEC-08 and UPC-06 will take effect on Oct. 1, 2009.

All plumbers and electricians scheduled to take the October exams are urged to secure copies of the two codes, as the exam will be based on these updated versions. As a reminder, the electricians and plumbers exam will take place Oct. 14, on St. Thomas and Oct. 15, on St. Croix. The registration deadline for the exam is Friday, Sept. 11.
