Rotary Club of St. Thomas Prepares for 50th Anniversary Weekend

Oct. 3, 2007 – The Rotary Club of St. Thomas is preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary of service in the Virgin Islands. The public is invited to the events. "Our club is the oldest in the district and we are expecting district and international leaders to join us," Club President Janette Millin Young said. "We want to ensure that it is a celebration shared with past and present members of the club, our sister clubs in the region, our family and friends, and the relatives of members who have passed on."
The anniversary weekend will be held Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 11-14. District Governor Richard McCombe, Rotary International District Barry Rassin and several past district governors have already confirmed they will participate in the planned activities. The schedule of events is as follows:
Oct. 11 – Special Meeting 12:30-1:30 p.m., at a Room With A View, Bluebeard's Castle
Oct. 12 – Cocktail Reception
Oct. 13 – Golden Anniversary Gala, begins at 6:30 p.m., at the St. Peter Mountain Great House. Tickets are available for $125. To reserve a ticket or for more information, e-mail Yegin Habtes, gala chair, at 693-1323, Sue Boland, anniversary weekend chair, at 626-4231, or Janette Young at 771-4050
October 14 – Family of Rotary Day will be a brunch at Coral World. Rassin and McCombe will deliver remarks. The cost of the brunch is $40. For more information about this particular program, call AG Don Chandler at 690-3251.
