Graeme Davis Steps Down as Chairman of the Board

July 3, 2007 – After serving three years as chairman of the board of the USVI Hotel & Tourism Association, Graeme Davis has resigned. The vice president of operations for Starwood Resorts Caribbean and South Florida, he sited a hectic travel schedule and time commitment as his reasons for stepping down.
"My schedule and availability has made it extremely difficult to be totally committed to my position as chairman. During the three years as chairman of the board, I have seen very positive change and great strengthening in our association through partnerships within the public/private sector and industry partners, marketing initiatives and inter-island relationships. Our success is testament to the professionalism and dedication of the board members and office staff. I remain committed to the association through our Westin St. John membership," Davis said.
During his tenure, the association developed, among other things, the Cooperative Marketing Initiative (CMI), enhanced relationships with the St. Croix Hotel & Tourism Association, lobbied legislators on important issues affecting members and provided professional leadership for the more than 300 members.
"As a former board member, I served with Graeme and his knowledge of the industry and dedication to the USVI was invaluable," said Rik Blyth, president of the Hotel & Tourism Association. "We understand the need to lighten his load but realize he will always be available for counsel."
Richard Doumeng will serve as interim chairman until elections in 2008. Doumeng is the general manager of Bolongo Bay Resort and a past president of the Hotel & Tourism Association.
