American Airlines Offering $39 Flights to Florida

June 15, 2007 — American Airlines is making it easy to get off the rock with $39 one-way airfares between St. Thomas and Miami or Fort Lauderdale if travelers book a round trip flight by June 20.
The Fort Lauderdale flight connects through San Juan, but the Miami flight is non stop from St. Thomas. Taxes and charges when booking at aa.com bring the price to $125.70 round trip.
Passengers must travel Tuesday through Thursday, with trips starting from Tuesday through Nov. 13. Trips must be completed by Nov. 15.
"People are reacting very well to the offer," said Minnette Velez, an American spokeswoman in Puerto Rico.
In addition to the cheap price, American customers who live in the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Florida can get triple AA frequent-flyer miles when they book their flights at aa.com/offers and use the promotion code FLA3X.
They can also travel with two 50-pound checked suitcases and one carry-on for no additional cost. This is the normal baggage allowance.
Velez pointed out that passengers can connect in Miami and Fort Lauderdale for other destinations. The $39 one-way flights also connect Fort Lauderdale and San Juan or Santo Domingo. Additionally, travelers can fly between Miami and Freeport, Kingston, Marsh Harbour, Montego Bay, and Puerto Plata for $39 each way.
American's sale also includes flights for $49 each way between Fort Lauderdale and Aruba or St. Maarten. The $49 price tag also applies to flights between Miami and Aruba, Curacao, Guatemala City, Managua, St. Maarten, San Jose and San Pedro Sula.
