June 14, 2004 When a truck snapped utility pole in half around 7 p.m. Sunday on Centerline Road east of the Jehovah Witness church, areas from Cruz Bay to Fish Bay lost power for more than three hours, V.I. Water and Power Authority director Alberto Bruno-Vega said Monday.
Winston Smith, who is in charge of WAPA operations in St. John, said a few hundred customers were affected. Additionally, customers as far east as Coral Bay saw their power dim several times when the accident happened.
Smith said a fire followed the accident, but no one was injured.
Smith said that crews worked through the night to make repairs, but WAPA was able to restore power before repairs were finished by rerouting the power supply.
The outage knocked out Innovative Cable TV in St. John, but it was back on the air by Monday morning. Smith said Innovative Cable's main station in St. John operates on the electrical line that went out.
