April 1, 2004 – The V.I. Fire Service has received an increase of $233,426 in a 2003 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security — bringing the total to $778,096.
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant will be used for firefighting equipment, training, personal protection gear, fitness/wellness programs and upgrading of facilities, Merwin Potter, acting Fire Service director, said in a release issued on Thursday.
Potter said the Fire Service is pursuing other federal grants to assist in training and development of the agency.
