LOW-INTEREST LOANS TO ASSIST THE DISABLED

April 1, 2004 – The University of the Virgin Islands, the V.I. Assistive Technology Foundation and Banco Popular signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday that will enable persons with disabilities to obtain low-interest loans to purchase technological equipment to enhance their capabilities.
The signing of the agreement took place in a ceremony on St. Thomas at the Banco Popular regional headquarters in Altona.
Among those present were Valentino I. McBean, Banco Popular senior vice president and regional manager; UVI President LaVerne Ragster; Juliette C. Kean, president of the Assistive Technology Foundation; Yegin Habteyes, director of UVI's Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities; and Michelle Griggs, the foundation secretary.
