WAPA BEGINS BURYING POWER LINES

Nov. 3, 2003 — WAPA will begin installing underground electrical lines to Frederiksted Tuesday. Crews will be digging on Melvin H. Evans Highway at East Airport Road and proceed west over the next eight months, eventually winding up just past Hannah's Rest Road-Centerline Road intersection.
According to Alberto Bruno-Vega, WAPA's executive director, "The undergrounding of Feeder #8 lines will help to immediately revitalize St. Croix's economy by improving the reliability and quality of service to Frederiksted."
The workers will be on the job between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily, with minimal work on weekends.
"In case of outages caused by severe storms," WAPA said in a statement issued Oct. 31, "the power to Frederiksted would likely be the last to go and the first to come back."
