COSMIC NEWS: SIGNS OF THE TIMES

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CAPRICORN
As the Sea-Goat, you climb the mountain of success in some form. Ah, but what form? What does success mean to you? That is your question–and quest for the New Year.

FULL MOON
On Dec. 30 the Full Moon in Cancer is directly across the sky from the Sun in Capricorn. A Full Moon reflects the full light of the Sun and highlights the interplay between two signs that are opposite each other.
This Full Moon features a partial eclipse that suggests a fast-forward on the change button. Both the Sun and Moon have companion planets that further describe the dynamic of these times.
CAPRICORN
Capricorn is an earth sign, practical, pragmatic and disciplined for accomplishment. Self-sufficient Capricorn learns by experience, sometimes the hard way, testing and tested by life to see how much it can accomplish on its own. Capricorns organize and build the world.
CANCER
Sensitive Cancer is a water sign, swaying with the tides, carefully feeling its way into life, seeking and offering support, caring, comfort. Like its symbol, the Crab, Cancer has a self-protecting shell. Like an oyster, it nurtures the delicate pearl growing inside. When it is ready, it will reveal the pearl, but only to the chosen few it lets into its heart.
MOON and JUPITER
The Full Moon will be ever so close to Jupiter, the brightest planet visible in the night sky. In the western hemisphere, this takes place early in the morning, but the nights on either side will still show Jupiter and the Moon in close communion. Jupiter is especially sweet in the sign of Cancer. Planet of expansion, it takes advantage of the opportunity to grow things, augment family bonds and a feeling of well-being. The United States, a Cancer country with a birth date of July 4, is enjoying a feeling of union and national pride, even in the face of war and terrorism. Jupiter is supporting a feeling of coming together and, hopefully, increasing a feeling of being part of the world family as well. Cancer can have a tendency to close off and isolate itself, getting cozy at home. The Statue of Liberty is a symbol that beautifully embodies the best of Cancer's nurturing attributes.
SUN and VENUS
The Sun in Capricorn is joined by Venus, too close to the Sun to be visible in the sky until well into March. Venus, goddess of love, is sober and grounded in Capricorn, and takes responsibility for the long-term success of relationships. While Cancer can get a bit sentimental, Venus brings it right back to the practical realities of daily living and the implications of our actions.
CHIRON
Chiron, a tiny planetoid, is also in Capricorn. A key or catalyst, like the White Rabbit who lured Alice into the rabbit hole, Chiron represents altered experience. We know our world has changed since September 11.
Chiron challenges us to find new forms that accomplish a higher purpose. The last time Chiron was in Capricorn, the U.S. political system indulged in fear-based McCarthyism. Chiron in Capricorn changes structures. Let's look to the geometry of the natural world, sacred architecture, and the harmonies of musical scales to find shapes and rhythms that will enhance our pleasure in life and allow us to live comfortably and peaceably in our global village. Joined wih Venus, Chiron suggests LOVE is the key.
MARS CHALLENGE
At this Full Moon, Mars is in a challenging position, at odds with both Pluto in Sagittarius and Saturn in Gemini, the two planets insisting on transformation. This can lead to aggressions and radical religious fervor. On the other hand, it gives us an opportunity to hear all points of view and propose new, more effective measures and act from compassion.
GO TO THE MOVIES!
The big question continues to be what do we believe is possible? what is our vision? Rather than watch all the bad news on TV, let's listen to Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings, powerful vehicles of vision for our time. Let's go to the movies and be inspired.
Happy New Year!
