Detectives from the V.I. Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau on Saturday arrested a man who was being treated for injuries.
Police said the man, identified as 24-year-old Malachi Benjamin, was wanted on a warrant on charges unrelated to his injuries. The police report did not explain what the warrant accused Stevens of. But VIPD has previously named Benjamin a “person of interest” in the February, 2018 double homicide at the Cockpit Coliseum in Estate Glynn. The Cockpit is a cock fighting arena. The main suspect, Ivan James, was arrested in Puerto Rico in April, 2018.
According to the VIPD, at 8:16 p.m. Saturday the 911 emergency call center dispatched officers from the Ancilmo Marshall Command the Gov. Juan F. Luis Memorial Hospital where a man was being treated for a stab wound.
The stabbing victim was identified as Benjamin. Detectives said he was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries to his face. Upon his discharge from the emergency room Benjamin was placed under arrest, based on an arrest warrant on an unrelated matter.
No bail was set as per the arrest warrant. Benjamin was remanded to the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility.
