Man Fatally Shot Near Pucha Bar

A man was shot to death Thursday night near the Pucha Bar on Queen Cross Street in Christiansted, the V.I. Police reported.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau are investigating the incident.

It was the 24th homicide in the territory since the first of the year, the 14th on St. Croix.

According to initial police reports, officers were notified of the shooting at about 10:15 p.m. Thursday. The call to police indicated that a man was holding another man at gunpoint and asking people in the area to call 911. Before units could arrive at the location, a caller told 911 that at least one shot had been fired.

When officers arrived on the scene they found the injured victim lying on the ground. Emergency medical technicians on the scene said the victim was unresponsive. He was taken to the Juan F. Luis Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead by medical staff.

Police have not released the victim’s name pending confirmation of next of kin.

The suspect voluntarily surrendered his licensed firearm to police on the scene. No arrests have been made at this time.
