Addelita Cancryn Junior High School Iguanas prevailed over the 2010 defending champions Charlotte Amalie High School Chicken Hawks in Interscholastic Athletic Association Junior Varsity baseball on Wednesday at Lionel Roberts Stadium, 3-1. The Hawks scored the first and their only run in the top of the second inning when Harleem Hart reached on an error.
The Iguanas tied the game with one run in the bottom of the inning. The Iguanas held the Hawks to just one hit, a two-out, bases-empty triple in the game, which came off the bat of Jeduthun Joseph. Joseph’s triple came right after Tevaughn Christian got thrown out trying to steal second base.
The Iguanas offence was being aided by the Hawks’ starting pitcher Mikhi Abraham’s inability to find the strike zone. Abraham faced 11 batters and walked seven of them. He struck out one and gave up no hit as he took the loss. Rashard Creque relieved Abraham and struck out five batters and walked only one in a little over two innings pitched.
The Iguanas had two hits in the game, one from Sanel Rosendo and the other from David Nicholas.
T’Quan Nesbitt picked up the win with nine strikeouts and walked four.
