Port Authority to Install Security Fencing at the Creek

The V.I. Port Authority was scheduled to begin the installation of decorative security fencing Monday at the Cruz Bay Creek, which the Port Authority has named Victor L. Sewer Marine Facility.

While the Creek had fencing, "it was pretty ugly," said Port Authority spokesman Monifa Marrero.

"We’re just trying to improve the look of the Creek," she said.

The new fence will cover the entire Creek area. While a chain is occasionally across the opening of the old fencing, Marrero said the opening will be replaced by a gate that is controlled by the Port Authority’s dock master.

The fencing is required by the U.S. Coast Guard, Port Authority Director Kenn Hobson said in a news release.

Work should take about 30 days to complete. The project is funded by a $59,800 grant from the Transportation Safety Administration. The work will be done by the St. Thomas-based Julien Welding.
