Dear Source:
Since I moved back to the Virgin Islands over a year ago, I am starting to see why my beautiful Island Paradise has gone down. Many people is here talking about the senate is doing a bad job with Dr. Spampinato, but I think differently.
Many times, past administrations and legislators have nominated friends and family, and the senate confirmed them. Well, we have been burnt too many times and I applaud the senate for thoroughly investigating this new nominee.
How many of you really know this Dr. Spampinato? We as Virgin Islanders always rile up for the latest and greatest, but do you really know who she is. First of all, she doesn't want to give the full story of her past employment. Doesn't that bother some of you guys? Well, it bothers me! Her only basis for not sharing is ethics, and not legal. That raised an immediate red-flag with me. I agree, the Virgin Islands public schools need a major overhaul. At this time, I think the administrators in these schools (especially the high schools) think they are running a prison instead of a school. The kids cannot learn with the kind of environment these administrators is providing for the students.
We need a person that is proven to reform the school system. Personally, I do not know if Dr. Spampinato is the correct person or if she is. All I know, she is not open with the last two attempts at reforming school districts where she last for less than a year, and that bothers me.
Our Virgin Islands have been burnt before, and we must go into this with an open mind so that the right decision can be made.
