Dear Source:
What is going on in the Virgin Islands? All I read about in this publication is racial problems? Hardly an issue comes out if there isn't some reference to racial disharmony. It sounds like you can't be white and live in the Virgin Islands. Do all black "islanders" hate white people? It's OK if we visit and spend our money, but they don't want whites living there? I read in disgust the letters from David McKean, John Thompson and Heather Chadwick-Johne. It sounds like these people truly loved these islands, but were forced out by bigots. Do the "islanders" want the islands to them selves? Well the way things are going they may very well have them to them selves. I understand that tourism is down over previous years. And what will they do without the white dollars that come in from tourists?
Are the racial problems that bad or are these the exception that I read about? How about the other Caribbean Islands, do they have as many racial problems?
I am truly sorry to read about these problems. You really do live in paradise. But it won't be for long if racial disharmony continues.
Is it a matter of black and white or more a matter of the haves and have-nots?
Thank you for letting me air my frustrations.
