UVI BULLETIN BOARD

Here is an update of upcoming activities and events at the University of the Virgin Islands.
Coastweeks Activities
Beach and underwater cleanups are being conducted at various locations around St. Croix beginning Sept. 16, coordinated nationally by the Center for Marine Conservation and locally by the V.I. Marine Advisory Service (VIMAS). To volunteer for a cleanup or for more information, contact Paige Rothenberger at 779-3141.
Free Vision Screenings
The Virgin Islands University Affiliated Program (VIUAP), in association with the V.I. Association for Independent Living, the V.I. Department of Education and the V.I. Department of Human Services, will provide free vision screenings in the Tutu Park Mall center court on Thursday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The screenings are being provided by Pearle Vision. UVI Wetlands Tour
VIMAS will conduct tours of the UVI Wetlands Reserve on St. Croix’’s South Shore and beach cleanups beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 29. Interested parties should call Marcia Taylor at VIMAS at 778-1112.
Sugar Bay Mangrove Restoration
The Sugar Bay Mangrove Restoration is a joint project between VIMAS and the St. Croix Environmental Association (SEA). Volunteers are needed to assist in planting at Sugar Bay (Salt River) on the mornings of Sept. 30 – Oct. 1 and Oct. 21 – 22. Chuck Mangione at Reichhold
World-renowned jazz trumpeter Chuck Mangione will perform at the Reichhold Center for the Arts on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. For ticket information, call the Reichhold Center Box Office at 693-1559.
World Food Day at UVI
The UVI Cooperative Extension Service, in partnership with the UVI Agricultural Experiment Station and the V.I. Department of Agriculture present World Food Day, "A Millennium Free from Hunger," on Sunday, Oct. 15, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the St. Croix campus. There will be musical entertainment, youth activities, vending by farmers, cultural dancers, crop-growing workshops, health and nutrition workshops and tours of the Agricultural Experiment Station. UVI St. Croix Blue & White Scholarship Ball
The UVI Alumni Association, St. Croix chapter, will host its annual Blue & White Scholarship Ball on Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Sunterra Carambola Beach Resort. The Association will honor distinguished UVI alumni Roderick E. Moorehead and O. Anne Treasure. Proceeds from the ball will go toward the UVI Alumni Association, St. Croix campus. For further information call Stella Saunders at UVI at 693-4023.
