April 10, 2004 – St. Thomas artist Diane Kreiner's 9tn annual solo show at Kilnworks Pottery and Art Gallery will hang through Mother's Day May 9.
Kreiner, whose style is representational yet easily recognizable by those familiar with her work, is known for her bold use of color and her ability to entice the viewer into her oil and watercolor scenes.
She remains true to her passion for capturing on canvas and paper the island and the island people that she loves. Three-quarters of her paintings depict people, she notes, adding: "I really enjoy drawing and painting people, normal people. "
Kreiner, who works out of a studio at her East Caret Bay home on the island's North Side, has been painting for more than three decades. Traditional street and market scenes are favorite subjects, sometimes with literally dozens of people portrayed — "each one with a distinctive personality," a release notes.
For several years Kreiner also has been applying her artwork to pottery — hand-painting vases created by Kilnworks owner Peggy Seiwert. And last year she introduced a line of fine-art reproductions of four of her paintings.
Kilnworks is located on Route 38 — Emile "Milo" Francis Drive, commonly known as Smith Bay Road — just east of the Grand Bay Palace Hotel, formerly the Renaissance Grand Beach Resort. The shop and gallery are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, call 775-3979.
