Transition to Kindergarten Conference

The V.I. Department of Human Services (DHS) will hold its Annual Transition Conference. This seminar will be held in three languages: Spanish from 8-10 a.m., Creole and English from 10 a.m. to noon.  The community is encouraged to participate in this event, especially those who have a child entering kindergarten this up-coming school year from Head Start, daycare centers, pre-kindergarten and home schools. Directors from the different programs, counselors from the Department of Education, specialists and child care will be on site to help parents and guardians. 2017 Territorial Spelling Bee

The V.I. Department of Education invites the community to the 44th Annual Territorial Spelling Bee. The territory’s top 12 spellers will compete for the championship title and the opportunity to represent the U.S. Virgin Islands at the 90th Scripps National Spelling Bee, May 28 through June 6, in Washington, D.C.

Community and Police Association (CAPA) will host a community meeting. The V.I. Police Department, Crime Prevention, senators, peace clergy and the public are invited to attend. The topics will include street security cameras and crime fighting apps. Come to voice concerns and to help find solutions. CAPA is inviting all the officers who worked Saturday night on the McDonald’s case to come with their family members and friends for a special prayer. The community and business owners would like to thank them for a job well done.

Workshop Series on Conscious Communication

Laura Castillo Nagi will be hosting a five-week series entitled “Conscious Communication -- Tools for Increasing Effectiveness and Connection in Communication.” The series will explore bringing awareness and mindfulness to communication to increase effectiveness, connection to self and connection to others.  Participants will leave with a concrete framework for communication that allows them to increase self-awareness, increase emotional intelligence, clarify needs and values, navigate difficult conversations and transform communication barriers into opportunities. The group will meet at 6:45-8:45 p.m., on Thursdays, March 30, April 6, April 13, April 20 and Monday, April 24.
