Aug. 20, 2003 – For the second time in eight months, a Virgin Islands ticket holder has won the Caribbean Lotto Jackpot, V.I. Lottery's executive director, Paul L. Flemming, announced in a release issued on Wednesday.
According to the Government House release, the winning ticket is worth $342,987.
The winning numbers are 6-9-14-17-27-35, and the free ticket letter is "J."
According to Todd W. Washington, general manager of Caribbean Lotto, the winning ticket was purchased at 5:01 p.m. Saturday at Vegetable City on St. Thomas.
Washington said the earlier V.I. winner was Miguel Martinez of St. Croix, who collected more than $823,000 last Dec. 22. He was the territory's first, and until now only, Caribbean Lotto Jackpot winner.
"We are, of course, extremely excited that the ticket was purchased this time on St. Thomas," Washington said. "We are also looking forward to the next winner from the Virgin Islands — hopefully from St. John."
Once the winning ticket has been validated, he said, the V.I. Lottery will schedule a press conference to introduce the winner.
Washington said anyone who purchased Caribbean Lotto tickets at Vegetable City on Saturday evening should have their tickets validated by any of the many authorized V.I. Lottery agents.
Caribbean Lotto is offered by Caribbean Lottery Services, headquartered on St. Croix, which is operated in the territory under contract to the V.I. Lottery. CLS is a subsidiary of Leeward Islands Lottery Holding Co., which conducts various lottery games including Caribbean Lotto throughout the region.
