Elections System of the Virgin Islands 2014 Elections Calendar (revised, version 4)
2014 Primary and General Elections
(Calendar is based on current state and federal laws as of date of its release. Efforts were made to ensure calendar complies with the law. If in any case the calendar conflicts with state or federal law, those laws control. Calendar is subject to change. Statutes reference the Virgin Islands Code of Laws (Title 18).
April 2014
April 7, Monday: Forms for filing Nomination Petition/Papers available at all Election System Offices, St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. John
April 13, Sunday: First Day to circulate Nomination Petition/Papers
May 2014
May 6, Tuesday: First Day on which Nomination Petitions/Papers may be filed after noon
May 7, Wednesday: Deadline for political parties to submit to the Supervisor of Election a party emblem to be entered on the format of the ballot as it shall appear on the electronic voting machine.
May 13,Tuesday: Last Day on which Nomination Petitions/Papers may be filed, 6 p.m.
May 18, Sunday: Deadline for Withdrawal of nominated candidates
May 18, Sunday: Deadline for candidates for the same office with similar last surnames to request in writing that the occupation or residence be printed opposite his/her name on the ballot
May 23, Friday: Deadline for filing substitute nomination certificates and papers
May 23, Friday: Casting of Lots for position of names upon the official primary ballot
June 2014
June 3, Tuesday: First Day for receipt by the Supervisor of Elections of applications for Absentee Ballots for the Primary Election
June 3, Tuesday: Deadline for receipt in Writing by the Supervisor of Elections of their shortened form on which candidates whose name contains more than 22 letters should be listed in the ballot
June 10, Tuesday: Certification of Nominees by the Supervisor of Elections
June 17, Tuesday: All federal ballots to be mailed out to Military and Overseas personnel
June 30, Monday: Campaign Disclosure Report due
July 2014
July 2, Wednesday: Last Day for Registration
July 2, Wednesday: First Day for Examination of Voting Machines and instruction in use of electronic voting machines
July 2, Wednesday: Last Day to investigate all questions relating to registration of electors
July 2, Wednesday: Last Day for Changes of Enrollment of political parties and Cancellation of Party Enrollment
July 2, Wednesday: Deadline for receipt of Removal Notices and Transfer of Registration
July 2, Wednesday: Last Day for Examination of Voting Machines and instruction in use of electronic voting machines
July 12, Saturday: Notice of Primary Election
July 13, Sunday: Deadline for qualified electors to petition the Boards of Elections to cancel the registration of any registered elector for cause shown
July 13, Sunday: Deadline for persons whose applications to be registered has been denied to petition the Board of Elections for review of the matter
July 15, Tuesday: Last Day for receipt by the Supervisor of Elections of applications for Absentee Ballots for the Primary Election
July 23, Wednesday: Deadline for Appeals to the District Court by persons whose claims for registration were denied or whose previous registration was canceled and who has exhausted all administrative remedies
July 31, Thursday: Testing of electronic voting machines and tabulating equipment, certification by Boards. Open to General Public and Media
August 2014
August 2, Saturday: PRIMARY ELECTION DAY
August 7, Thursday: Registrars in the Election System of the Virgin Islands Commence Registration
August 12, Tuesday: Casting of Lots for position of names upon the official election ballot at 5:30 p.m.
August 22, Friday: In case of a tie vote at the primary election, the candidates receiving the tie vote shall cast lots before the Supervisor of Elections at noon.
September 2014
September 2, Tuesday: First Day for receipt by the Supervisor of Elections of applications for Absentee Ballots for the General Election
September 19, Friday: All Federal Ballots to be mailed to Military and Overseas personnel
October 2014
October 5, Sunday: Last Day for Registration
October 5, Sunday: First Day for Examination of Voting Machines and instructions in use of electronic voting machines
October 5, Sunday: Last Day to investigate all questions relating to registration of electors
