La Grange Assault Suspect Taken Into Custody

Police arrested 39-year-old Cleo A. Taylor Wednesday in connection with the November attack of a woman jogging in Estate La Grange, St. Croix, the Virgin Islands Police Department reported.

On Nov. 28, an adult female entered the Police Operations Building bleeding from her head and hands. She told officers that an unknown woman driving a white Mercedes-Benz had assaulted her with a bottle while she jogged along the roadway, police said. Following the investigation, Taylor was identified as the perpetrator, according to the police report.

A Superior Court magistrate signed a warrant for Taylorโ€™s arrest on Dec. 10. Police set her bail at $100,000, the police report stated.

Members of the Patrol Division, with assistance from the Criminal Investigation Bureau and Special Operations Bureau, went to Taylorโ€™s residence on Thursday and detained her without incident. Police said she declined to be booked at the Police Operations Building. She faces charges of attempted murder in the first degree, assault in the first degree, assault in the third degree, simple assault and battery, and disturbance of the peace, the report stated.

Advice of rights is set for Friday, in Superior Court on St. Croix, it stated.

Police said the investigation continues into other incidents involving a white Mercedes-Benz sedan. Anyone with information is asked to call 911, the Wilbur Francis Command Police Station at 340 778 2211 or Crime Stoppers VI at 1 800 222 8477.
