Lt. Gov. Roach Mourns Bishop Herbert A. Bevard

I join a deeply saddened Virgin Islands community in mourning the passing of Bishop Herbert A. Bevard, retired Bishop of the Diocese of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. He was a humble and faithful servant of the Clergy, Religious, Laity and the entire Virgin Islands community.

Having known Bishop Bevard personally, I honor his memory and his sacred leadership of the Church in the Virgin Islands. He led his flock with kindness and compassion, and will be remembered for his stewardship of the Church, and, as well, his caring ways. During his tenure, Bishop Bevard was responsible a lot of the improvements of the Sts Peter and Paul Cathedral, which are still notable today.

The Virgin Islands is grateful because Bishop Bevard chose us as his spiritual home, a place which grew with him, as he led so many in divine worship and in the love of God. I offer a prayer for comfort and for Godโ€™s grace to the Diocese and to all the members of his family, friends, and loved ones, as we all share in this great loss.ย

May he rest in glory.
