Victor C. Garfield, Sr. Dies at 80

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Victor C. Garfield, Sr. affectionately known as “Gyaah”. He was born on St. Thomas, Virgin Islands on November 16, 1944. He died on February 3, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents Franz Garfield Sr. & Cassilda O Monsanto Garfield; brothers Franz Jr., Ramon,and Rudolph(Jap); sisters Yolanda(Reds),Julia,& Agatha.; nephew Michael;uncles Euclin McBean,Ishmael Fredericks,James Sr.,Ivan, & Rudolph Faulkner. Aunts Mercedes,Joyce and Jean Faulkner.

He is survived by his loving wife Winifred Lewis Garfield  of 56 years, his children, Lon Sr., Vilma, Victor II, Vinette Willock, and Vivicka; adopted daughter Arienne Lang; his siblings Inez Dixon, Lillian, and The Rev. Liston Garfield; his uncles Theodore and John Faulkner; his grandchildren Lon Jr., Chelsi, Akin, Steadson Wallace Jr., Sayeeda Bennett, Victor III,& V’shoi Emmanuel; brother-in-laws The Hon. Justin Harrigan Sr., Larry Dixon, Walter Lewis Jr., and Warren Lewis; sisters-in-law Yvonne, Alda, Jacqueline, The Hon. Wilma Lewis; daughters-in-law Sharon and Tina; son-in-law Henry Willock Jr.; nephews Gideon, David, Aubrey Faulkner, Theodore Emmanuel, Corey Gifft, and Jacques Harley; nieces Julia Bennerson, Carol, Joy, Landa Benjamin, Ruth, Gaynelle, Giselle, and Kristen; Dayatra Emmanuel,& Dionne Donadelle; many loving cousins, God-children, adopted children, life-long friends, and extended families too numerous to mention.

Victor’s proudest connections include being a Longpatherian, faithful worshipper at The Cathedral Church of All Saints on Wednesday morning at 6:30, an alumni member of the illustrious CAHS Class of 1962, drummer for Milo & The Kings and a member of the American Legion Post 90.  Victor served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam era; he retired from  the VI Housing Authority as Plumbing Superintendent.

Professional services are entrusted to Turnbull’s Funeral Home & Crematory Services.

First viewing for family and friends is scheduled on Friday, February 28, 2025 from 4-6 PM at Turbull’s Funeral Home & Crematory Services. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at The Cathedral Church of All Saints, St. Thomas VI with musical tributes and viewing at 9AM.  Interment at Smith Bay Eastern Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Victor Garfield Sr.’s family requests that donations be made to the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) in memory of his life, passions and interests. Checks should be made out to CFVI, with a memo noting “In memory of Victor Garfield Memorial Fund for Vocational & Music Education”and mailed to P.O.
