Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. has ordered that all U.S. Virgin Islands flags be flown at half-staff on Friday, Oct. 20, in honor of former Senator Alicia โ€œChuckyโ€ Hansen.

All U.S. Virgin Island flags are to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Government House and upon all public buildings and grounds throughout the territory.

The governor has also urged owners of private buildings in the territory to fly their U.S. Virgin Islands flags at half-staff in honor of former Sen. Hansen, who dedicated her life to the people of the Virgin Islands. She passed away on Oct. 2.

In the proclamation, Gov. Bryan said Senator Hansen โ€œwas a fearless advocate for the people of the Virgin Islands, a true champion, and an unwavering voice for her constituents.โ€

Senator Hansen served as a senator in the U.S. Virgin Islands for 11 terms beginning with the 17th Legislature. Her most recent term was in the 32nd Legislature.
