Collision on Lionel Berry Drive Leaves One Dead, Two Injured

An accident in which a car collided with a pole on Lionel Berry Drive in the area of the Nidal Grocery on St. Thomas on Sunday has left one woman dead, the Virgin Islands Police Department reported.  

Investigation revealed that the driver fell asleep and collided with a concrete pole in front of the business sign, police said. The vehicle was occupied by the driver, a 59-year-old man, another man in the front passenger seat, and a 63-year-old, and a 57-year-old woman in the back seats, according to the police report. 

The driver and front seat passenger sustained minor injuries, and the right rear passenger complained of pain to her entire body and was transported by ambulance to Roy Lester Schneider Hospital, said police.  

Anita Balani, 57, sustained fatal injuries and died on the scene, police said. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, according to police report.
