A Man’s Guilty Plea for Firearm in School Zone

Tuesday a St. Croix man pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm in school zone. He faces a maximum sentence of up to 5 years in prison, said United States Attorney Delia L. Smith.

On September 28, 2021, police discovered a fully loaded 9mm handgun in a ditch located in Anna’s Hope, 290 feet from the Church of God Holiness Academy. Roniel Allembert, 22, was observed at that location but sped off when officers approach the area. Later Allembert returned to the location driving slowly while looking on the side of the road where the handgun was discovered. DNA was later discovered on the firearm that matched Allembert’s. He did not have a license to possess the firearm, according to court documents.

This case was investigated by the Virgin Islands Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration and the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney.
