Office of Health Inforamtion Technology’s Second Annual Digital Health Summit

The Office of Health Information Technology will be hosting its Second Annual Digital Health Summit on June 14-16 at Antilles School on St. Thomas. Bringing together leading experts and officials to expand and increase online resources available to Virgin Islanders and support their health and well-being, said government house

Established in 2021 by Bryan the Office of Health Information Technology’s purpose is to assist in the enhancement of health and wellness in the territory with health information technology resources.

“We’re continuing the momentum from last year’s successful summit and these workshops will help our healthcare system navigate the digital age to help Virgin Islanders adapt to the ever-changing shifts in healthcare technology,” Bryan said.

Summit attendees will hear from federal leaders of the Office of the National Coordinator, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the Cybersecurity Infrastructure Security Agency, according to government house officials.

“I am particularly excited about the no-cost, health IT workforce training opportunities that we are initiating with Howard University and the unveiling of a Google program that gives our youth opportunities in digital health technology by teaching Python coding,” the Governor said. “Both of  these advances are the direct result of last year’s Digital Health Summit and stand to benefit our  community on a number of levels.”

The keynote address will be given by Dr. Sandra Elizabeth Ford, a renowned pediatrician who previously served as President Biden’s Special Assistant for Public Health and Science.  She will be highlighting the role of digital health tools in closing health equity gaps and improving healthcare through data-driven treatment plans, according to press release.

National leaders from the health IT, data and analytics, population health, and other sectors will address pressing issues regarding data sharing regulations and advances, total person health enabled through digital means, and the financial sustainability of providing cost-effective digital health and wellness care, said government house.

“This is an exhilarating conference that creates opportunities for unprecedented engagement, and this  summit offers opportunities to find solutions to the most challenging issues related to data, cyber security, interoperable systems and artificial intelligence, that affect the growing influence of digital  health care,” OHIT Executive Director Michelle Francis said.
