Alfred Emanuel Ashe Dies at 82

Alfred Emanuel Ashe

Alfred Emanuel Ashe, also known as “Janan,” of Clifton Hill, Christiansted, departed this life on April 15. He was 82 years old.

Alfred was born in Freeman’s Village, Antigua, to the late Ada and Alfred Ashe. He was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters. Alfred migrated to St. Croix in the early 1960s, where he worked as a contractor until he retired.

He is survived by his wife, Faybelle Forde Ashe; daughters: Mealyn and Latishma Ashe and stepdaughter, Jamila Benjamin; son, Alfred Emanuel Ashe Jr; stepsons: Ashbel and Aaron Benjamin, Troy and Dave Weste; grandchildren: Lateaya Fleming, Alfred E. Ashe III, Ashari Benjamin, Jazlyn Benjamin, Laquinicia Joseph, Shamani Joseph, Azariah Benjamin and Janalisse Weste; and sister, Delores Merrick.

He is also survived by nieces to include: Carmen Merrick, Joan Hazelwood and Yvette Crandan; nephews to include: Noel Merrick and Winston Merrick; and numerous other nieces and nephews too numerous to mention; daughter-in-law, Tara Lee Ashe; brother-in-law, George Merrick; sister-in-law, Virginia Ashe; special friends: Logan “Winkie” Joseph, Samuel “Max” Jonas and Winifred Jonas; as well as other cousins other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

There will be a viewing held at 9 a.m. followed by funeral services at 10 a.m., Friday, May 5, at the Beulah A.M.E. Zion Church, Estate Bethlehem. Interment will be at Kingshill Cemetery.
