The 175th Emancipation Commemoration Committee has announced the launch of its new website at www.VI175.com.

“This site will serve as a one-stop destination for all things Emancipation and our 175th Celebration,” said Emancipation Commemoration Committee Chairwoman Carol Burke.

Visitors to the site can read and learn the true stories of emancipation with shared experiences from the community’s past. Through this launch, persons can contribute creatively and financially to the many aspects of commemoration plans, as well as be kept up to date and informed of all upcoming Emancipation Commemoration-related events.

These are specifically, but not limited to ‘The Keepers of the Flame,’ who will be honored at a reception from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, April 4 at Government House on St. Thomas and a reception from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, at Government House on St. Croix.

Residents who want to volunteer or partner with the 175th Emancipation Commemoration Committee should visit the new site and submit a request via the “Contacts” page.

“The shared experiences of 175 years will have ignited our imaginations, illuminated our diverse stories, inspired service to others, and demonstrated our years of achievement, struggle, sacrifice and resilience while framing the narrative of the next 175 years,” Burke said.
