Michael Alexander McKinnon Dies

Michael Alexander McKinnon

Michael Alexander McKinnon was born May 29, 1968, in Quincy, Mass., to Marianne McKinnon of Langhorne, Penn., and Frank McKinnon of Orford N.H. and passed away Dec. 13, 2022, in Christiansted, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Mike attended New Hampshire College earning a degree in culinary arts and hospitality management in 1991. He interned in Paris, France, and brought his skills as a classically trained chef to the U.S. Virgin Islands in 1992.

Michael worked as an extremely talented head chef at such restaurants as Café du Soliel, Sunset Grill and the Brew Pub on St. Croix and went on to own and operate his own restaurant, Dashi, for 17 years. He won multiple awards and accolades during his career as a chef, mentor and business owner.

He was very adventurous and active throughout his life-enjoyed the sea, horseback training and riding. He was an avid reader and knew every word to every Johnny Cash song ever written.

Michael is survived by both his parents; son, Christopher Marley in St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughter, Maeve McKinnon of St. Croix V.I.; brother, Ryan McKinnon of Bucks County, Penn.; and his former wife, Ashley McKinnon on St. Croix, V.I.

Thank you for all the condolences, love and support received from stateside and island family and friends. A celebration of Michael’s incredible life will be announced at a later date.
