Congresswoman Plaskett, a member of the House Ways and Means, Budget and Agriculture Committees, released the following statement regarding Rep. Hakeem Jeffries’ election as the leader of the House Democratic Caucus:
“I am extremely proud of my fellow New Yorker, brother [and] friend, the Honorable Hakeem Jeffries on his unanimous election as Leader of the House Democratic Caucus. Today is a momentous day in the arc of American history as we champion the first Black party leader in either chamber of Congress. A brilliant mind, thoughtful strategist, consummate gentleman and team leader. Rep. Jeffries has consistently put people over politics and is undoubtedly well-prepared to carry on the Democrats’ fight for working families and the defense of Democracy. Additionally, I am pleased to extend congratulations to my other colleagues, Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA), who will chair the caucus and Katherine Clark (D-Mass) who will be our new minority whip.
“Our new generation of leaders reflects the vibrancy and diversity of our great nation and, in particular, the Democratic Party. I look forward to working with the new House Democratic Caucus leadership in the upcoming term of Congress.”
