St. Croix Man Arrested for Bank Fraud

A man on St. Croix was arrested for bank fraud, police said Tuesday.

Jeremiah Cheatham, 25, turned himself in and was placed under arrest and charged with forgery, obtaining money by false pretense, grand larceny, and access to a computer for fraudulent purposes.

An investigation that was initiated on Jan. 18 revealed Cheathem allegedly wrote three checks on three different occasions against the victim’s First Bank checking account totaling $3,540.00 and made several PayPal transactions totaling $7,564.91 without her permission.

Bail was set at $20,000.00. He was unable to post bail, and Cheatham was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice of rights hearing on Sept. 28.
