Updated: Brothers in Custody in STX Shooting That Left Victim Paralyzed

On Friday at midnight, 21-year-old Marcelino Rivera and 25-year-old Samuel Rivera Jr., turned themselves in at the Anselmo Marshall Command on St. Croix in connection with a shooting Thursday afternoon at the Tide Village service station, the V.I. Police Department reported Saturday morning. Their legal counsel Jeffery Moorehead was present.

Both men were processed and charged with attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, unauthorized possession of a firearm, first-degree assault, mayhem, and first-degree reckless endangerment, the VIPD report stated.

Bail has been set at $100,000 each with no 10 percent provisions by Judge Alphonso Andrew, it said.

They were unable to post bond and were remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending their advice of rights hearing on Monday, the VIPD report stated.

Two brothers are sought in a shooting Thursday afternoon at the Tide Village service station on St. Croix that left the victim paralyzed, the V.I. Police Department said.

The 911 emergency call center received a report of a shooting at the service station just before 2 p.m. Thursday, according to the VIPD report.

Officers at the scene spoke with a man “who said he was shot by a Samuel Rivera and was also grabbed and struck by his brother Marcelino Rivera. He further stated that they were friends and claims not to know why they attacked him,” the VIPD report stated.

The victim sustained one gunshot to his chest and the projectile struck and lodged in his spinal column, causing paralysis, according to the report.

Forensics experts processed the scene and camera footage was collected that substantiated the victim’s accounts of the event, the report stated.

Marcelino Rivera, 21, has a brown complexion, long black hair, is 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighs about 135 pounds, the report said.

Samuel Rivera, 25, is light-skinned with sun-bleached hair, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, and weighs about 124 pounds, the report said.
