The Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority (VIHFA) informs the St. Thomas community and residents of Nordsidevej Queen’s Quarter that demolition of the Queen Louise Apartments will commence on Jan. 31 for a period of 6-8 months. The building is located at the top of Fire Burn Hill, adjacent to the new roundabout.
Following the complete demolition, which is financed by VIHFA infrastructure funds, the authority will apply for Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery funding to revitalize the area with new residential construction. The Queen Louise Revitalization Project plan is to build a five-story, 26-unit apartment complex and six three-story townhouses with southern views of the island. Both buildings will include parking considerations in their structure.
Once completed, the apartment units will be available for rent to low-to-moderate income residents. The townhouses will be available for sale through the authority’s homeownership division.
During the application for funding phase, architectural drawings, construction documents and renderings of the new home community will be commissioned. The project is expected to be completed by 2025-2026.
