It was a “spooktacular” weekend on St. Croix as families were outdoors participating in Halloween-themed events. It was a marked difference to just one year ago when large events were restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sunday morning at the St. George Village Botanical Garden on St. Croix, families, friends, and supporters all gathered to celebrate “Halloween Spooktacular.”
Becca Houghson, the director of administration, marketing, and events and development at the St. George Village Botanical Garden, said children and their families enjoyed pumpkin carving, a trick or treat trail, goblin egg hunt, arts and crafts area, and a costume parade.
Volunteers greeted visitors at the gates of the St. George Village Botanical Garden, providing them with a map of information on the event stations occurring throughout the morning.
“We wanted to utilize all 16 acres of our amazing garden space so we can keep everything COVID safe,” Houghson said.
From the main entrance, participants picked up their pumpkins and headed over to the carving stations, where they had an option of painting or carving the gourds. Once their pumpkins were carved, trick or treaters then followed the map and visited the different candy stations on the trail.
To wrap up the event, children followed the jellyfish ladies as they lead the costume parade of children dressed as princesses, pirates, dinosaurs, and an array of other spooky and creative costumes.
Houghson thanked Cost-U-Less for donating pumpkins and candy for the event.

Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts
On Saturday morning the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts on St. Croix held a Halloween Eve Art event for children in the age groups of three to six years and seven to ten. Participants painted pumpkins in the spirit of Halloween. After the class, the young painters were also able to view the exhibition of work by Dualidad Antillana in the upstairs gallery.
