A St. Thomas man, 91, and St. Croix woman, 79, have died of COVID-19, raising the territory’s death toll from the virus to 80 since the start of the pandemic, the V.I. Health Department reported Monday afternoon.
The deaths come as the Health Department reports 73 active cases on St. Croix, 19 on St. Thomas and none on St. John, according to figures released on Saturday.
The Government House weekly COVID-19 news briefing is scheduled for Tuesday at 2 p.m., remote from Denver, Colorado, where Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. is currently on a medical cannabis fact-finding trip. It will be streamed live on the administration’s Facebook page.
The Health Department continues to work to slow the spread of COVID-19 and urges residents to continue to follow the precautionary measures of social distancing, wearing a mask when in the company of others outside of your household, cleaning frequently used areas thoroughly, and washing your hands often with soap and warm water.
Getting the COVID-19 vaccine can prevent severe illness and death, the department stated in its news release. To schedule an appointment, call 340-777-8227 or visit covid19usvi.com/vaccines. Walk-ins are also accepted at the department’s Community Vaccination Centers.
